,* is seeking a qualified organist/pianist to begin employment June 1, 2024.
Competitive, beginning salary range of 28k – 32k, based on a 20 hr.
work week.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
_I.
General Understanding_ * Music is an integral part of the life of this church.
Under the leadership of the clergy, the employee exercises an important role that reaches out to staff, choir members, members of the congregation, and the community.
* This is a part-time position; anticipating twenty to twenty-eight (20-28) hours per week as a reasonable amount of time for the work needed.
* An optional pension plan is available for employee contributions.
Medical Insurance is not provided.
* The Organist/Accompanist shall perform duties as listed in the Working Conditions and Responsibilities.
* Either party may terminate employment by giving the other party ninety (90) days written notice.
* The employee agrees to recognize and facilitate the administrative dimension of this position.
* The music ministry will involve the employee as a principal musician of this church.
As a musician, the employee will be diligent in preparation and performance, and will cooperate with others to provide and enable the highest possible standard of worship for this church.
* It is understood that a variety of traditions and styles exist in religious music that may be appropriate for church worship services, and that the use of this variety is expected.
* Main Sanctuary: Rodgers 960D III/P-hybrid / Kawai KG-6C Grand Piano.
Both are maintained regularly.
_II.
General Qualifications_ The Organist/Accompanist shall have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music with a keyboard emphasis, and/or significant experience and ability with both organ and piano, in a liturgical setting.
It is necessary that the organist possess a demeanor that works well with the Director of Music, the Chancel Choir, the staff and congregation as a whole.
_III.
Supervision_ The Organist/Accompanist will function under the direct supervision of the Director of Music and the Senior Pastor.
The Employee will receive a copy of the Willowbrook Employee Handbook which details policies and procedures for all lay staff.
A form will be signed by the employee to indicate he/she has received the Handbook.
_IV.
Working Conditions and Responsibilities_ * Be directly responsible to the Director of Music.
Both come under the supervision of the Senior Pastor.
* The organist/accompanist will possess excellent skills in sight-reading, including open score, as well as skills in transposition, modulation, and stylistically appropriate improvisation.
* Significant experience in organ registration appropriate to period, style, text, or other musical considerations is preferred.
* Provide appropriate organ and/or piano music for the Sunday 9:30 am and Saturday 5:00 pm services.
The Organist/Accompanist is responsible for the selection of the prelude, offertory, and postlude music.
* Accompany rehearsals for the Chancel Choir.
Rehearsals take place on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.
m.
, in the Chancel.
* Provide music for weddings and memorial services when requested and if available, held within the church for the established fee schedule.
The organist/accompanist has the right of first refusal.
* Provide music for Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday and/or Good Friday worship services and a large choral event on one Sunday in Advent.
Provide music for other programs and special events of the church as requested based on availability.
* Take part in extra rehearsals for regularly scheduled services that require additional preparation.
* Vacation per the benefit identified in the Employee Manual * The Organist/Accompanist is responsible for arranging for the services of a qualified substitute organist/accompanist when taking approved vacation time or other leave as provided for in the employee manual.
* Report to the Director of Music on the condition and needs for maintenance of the church’s organs and pianos.
* Attend specific planning sessions when invited by the Director of Music, a Pastor, or the Chairperson of the Worship Committee.
* Continuing Education may be supported with time off and/or funds necessary for, but not restricted to, instrument study, music review and reading, trends in worship and spiritual renewal.
All requests shall be made in writing to the Senior Pastor, Staff-Parish Relations Committee, and the Director of Music.
* The Organist/Accompanist may use the church facilities, including organ and piano, for private teaching.
Times of lessons and use of facilities will be scheduled in advance so as not to conflict with the church’s program and needs.
The Organist/Accompanist is solely responsible for all taxation and accounting obligations resulting from self employment income from private teaching.
* An evaluation of new personnel will be completed after ninety (90) days, and thereafter on an annual basis.
