A Police Lieutenant is a key leader with the organization, responsible for overseeing and managing a division of police staff.
The purpose of this position is to provide mid-level leadership, while also providing program and project management.
A Police Lieutenant is responsible for all Police-related activities in a specific section of the Department/City, including the response to calls to provide assistance and direction to officers and sergeants.
Lieutenants also have important administrative duties within their division, as assigned by the Police Commander, including promotion of short-term and long-term Department goals and initiatives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Education: Bachelor’s degree in Police Administration, Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or related field.
(Bachelor's degree is required within 4 years of the promotion date into this classification.
Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a demotion.
)
* Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Peoria Police Sergeant is required.
(Applicants with law enforcement supervisory experience in a prior/previous agency, may be applied to the experience requirement, if the demonstrated experience is equivalent to the current job requirements and expectations of a Peoria Police Sergeant.

* Licenses/Certifications: Valid AZ Driver’s License upon hire/promotion and AZPOST Certification (Lateral Lieutenants outside of Arizona must obtain AZPOST certification within 3 months of hire.
