Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities: What We’re Looking For: If you enjoy learning about and working with breakthrough technologies and are enthusiastic about working in the space industry, then you will be excited about the Principal Software Engineer opening with Iridium Ground Systems.
As the Principal Software Engineer within the Ground Systems Development team, you will apply cutting edge technologies to rapidly develop and deploy ground system operations and user service capabilities within a satellite operations environment.
Additionally, the Principal Software Engineer will identify and autonomously implement ideas/solutions within the larger development team to support cross-functional efforts across all areas of ground system software development.
What You’ll Do: Manage and enhance existing ground software with feature requests and defects flowing from Iridium Satellite Operations Lead the development of new ground software and enhance existing software capabilities in back-end and front-end to meet the requirements of the Iridium Ground Software Lead collaborative efforts and initiatives with Ground Systems Development team and other software team members to develop new ground software components founded upon modern industry standard platforms, languages, and deployment techniques Develop optimized code for both scalability and performance Independently deliver results following Iridium’s Agile/Scrum processes for software development, test, integration, and deployments Leverage commercial and free and open-source software to provide innovative solutions to our various Ground Systems needs Plan and execute software releases, providing input into product owners/program schedules and budgets Confidently present complex information to groups outside of your team through briefings and documentation, planned implementation, or issue resolutions, with limited preparation Utilize your deep expertise to transition existing capabilities to more advanced technologies, such as AWS (Amazon Web Services) Cloud computing and micro-service architectures Leverage knowledge to make enhancements to process/procedure/training documentation and identify technical training needs Deliver constructive, meaningful feedback and proactively offer guidance and knowledge-sharing with team members Experience & Education Requirements / EEO: What You’ll Need to Succeed: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline 10+ years of software programming experience The ability to create or maintain a high availability architecture Strong troubleshooting skills supporting large scale integration/test on VLAN virtualize Linux environment The ability to learn, work with, and become proficient with numerous COTS (Commercial-off-the-Shelf) packages Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues clearly and confidently, and recognize and adapt to different communication techniques Can easily build meaningful relationships with others, including senior leadership outside of your own department, and is comfortable providing constructive feedback to your team members and management Be able to analyze a situation or problem, generate effective solutions, and see those solutions through to completion Must possess the creativity and resourcefulness needed to make reliable decisions and determine methods on new assignments Can thrive in a dynamic environment by handling multiple tasks and managing shifting priorities Be proactive in sharing knowledge you’ve learned with others Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table: Experience with the following technologies: Kubernetes / Docker / Podman / ArgoCD CI/CD Pipelining (GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, BitBucket) Linux based environments and bash shell scripting Python / Java / C++ / Type Script / Perl RESTful / HTTP / ELK or similar / WebSockets XML / JSON / SQL SQL (e.

citizen Work Environment: This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office.
The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer.
The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse and printer.
For meetings in-person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within the office and climb stairs on occasion.
