Read more about the position and see if it is a good match for you: JOB SUMMARY Assist Public Works Department (PWD) Engineers with engineering projects and programs, provide extensive and specialized technical knowledge, make technical decisions within scope of authority and training in assigned area of responsibility, supervise staff, and assure compliance with County policies and procedures under general supervision.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform a variety of complex technical work in support of PWD engineering programs and perform work within scope of authority and training in assigned area of responsibility.
Oversee complex and critical projects and programs, investigate special requests for technical information, and develop recommendations on operational procedures and project activities.
Serve as program manager on PWD inspection and special engineering projects and assure work quality and compliance to Federal and state regulations, and County policies and procedures.
Assign, supervise, and review the work of Engineering Technicians, establish work schedules and priorities, identify resource needs, review needs with appropriate management staff, and allocate resources accordingly.
Research, analyze, and evaluate permit applications, project plans, reports, technical specifications, maps and estimates and review plans, specifications, proposals, and project documentation to maintain PWD quality standards.
Assist Engineers as needed, develop project requirements, plans, documents, standards, and estimates, organize and coordinate meetings, define issues, and identify conflicts.
Research plans and technical documentation to acquire information needed for the management of PWD projects.
Maintain and update computer files, tracking systems, and databases, write various technical documents and reports, and make technical estimates of a specialized nature in connection with various projects.
Produce and review plans for civil engineering projects, using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software.
Follow all safety rules and regulations, utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed, report safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations to supervisor immediately.
Design roads, drainage, and traffic engineering projects.
Prepare civil construction project plans and specifications.
Perform testing, maintenance, configuration, custom programming, and deployment of CAD software.
Perform quality control and processing of topographical survey data.
Develop and maintain special GIS data sets and prepare complex maps and technical documents requiring advanced cartographic design and data display techniques.

Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.

Minimum Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Two (2) years of experience of civil construction and building trades experience.
Valid Driver’s License with an Arizona Driver’s License required within 30 days of hire.
Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level III certification.
Additional specific technical training and certification may be required for some job assignments.
Experience inspecting flood control facilities and addressing citizen complaints related to storm water and flooding.
Supplemental Information Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Public Works Department policies and procedures.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of general engineering and specialized technical areas of assignment.
