Technical Writer *Status:* Full-time: Exempt *Reports to:* Director, Public Policy & Applied Research *About First Place AZ* We are a nonprofit charitable organization, representing home for individuals who live here, peace of mind for family and friends, and an inspiring and enriching workplace environment.
*The Opportunity* Under the direct supervision of the Director, Public Policy & Applied Research and in collaboration with key members of the team, the Technical Writer will create and revise technical documents such as manuals, reports, brochures or articles.
*Your team* * Global Leadership Institute: The GLI consists of the Director, Public Policy & Applied Research, Administrative Assistant, Family & Community Outreach Coordinator, Research Coordinator & Data Analyst, Research Assistant, Director of Transition Academy, Director of Development and the Director of Communications & Expression.
* Administration: Finance, HR, Marketing, & Transition Academy employees work behind the scenes to promote First Place and provide support to all the staff *Who you are* You can work in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible, organized, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism.

*What you’ll do* * Writes and edits technical documents including reference manuals and product manuals.
* Writes and edits procedural documentation such as user guides and manuals.
* Determines the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements.
* Meets with engineers, programmers, and project managers to learn about specific products or processes.
* Research product samples to fully understand product.
* Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
* Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
* Creates or works with graphic designers to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
* Gathers feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers to improve technical documents.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
*Supervisory Responsibilities:* N/A *What you’ll bring* * Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related field * Three years of related experience.
* Accessibility pertaining to: Universal Design, Plain Language Adaptation, Section 508 compliant writing and Principles of Inclusive Design * Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Excellent writing and grammatical skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to present complex data in clear, concise text.
* Ability to meet deadlines and to work independently.
* Ability to edit and proofread work of colleagues.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software \*All potential employees of First Place will be required to pass a thorough criminal background check, drug screening and any other offender/registry clearances as identified and deemed appropriate by the organization.
*What to expect* The position takes place in both an office environment and within the community.
Exposure to varying temperatures and weather elements can apply.
The noise level ranges from quiet to moderate.
