Job Type Unclassified Department Assessor About the Position As a Senior Data Scientist, you are responsible for advanced mathematical and statistical concepts and theories to analyze and collect data and construct solutions to problems in assessment, including automated valuation models (AVMs) to market value residential, land, and commercial properties.
The Senior Data Scientist constructs predictive models and algorithms to support data analysis and verifies model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results.
You will design experiments and apply methodologies to generate and collect data for use in the valuation and assessment processes.

Completion of at least two appraisal modeling courses, such as IAAO 300, 311, 312, 331,332, or 333, or equivalent Completion of DOR Level I and II courses Proficiency using SPSS, R, Python, SQL, and/or PowerBI Job Contributions Use knowledge of Assessor’s Office business processes to complete data science projects which provide insights and solutions to further efficiency, transparency, and fairness Integrate multiple data sources, models, and software tools with business line-specific decision support and data analysis For AVM models, specify, calibrate, test, verify, and deploy mass appraisal valuation models for residential, vacant land, and commercial properties throughout Maricopa County according to IAAO and DOR Standards for fair and equitable property values in compliance with statutory deadlines and guidelines.
Models primarily developed using additive, multiplicative (log-linear), and non-linear hybrid multiple regression techniques using sales and income approaches to value.
Includes conducting Temporal Analysis on multiple years of market data to value properties as of a single-valuation date.
May also include Cost Model calibration to determine if submarket adjustments are necessary Develop tools and information for Appraisers, such as calculation programs and spreadsheets, depreciation schedules, etc.

Develop model documentation & Time Adjusted Sales Price Schedules (TASP) using Regression Analysis and Reporting Techniques Provide quality control of values by producing reports, analyzing information and data, identifying and correcting data problems, and working with appraisers to obtain additional information as necessary.
Identify data quality issues within assigned models and assigned projects Contribute to problem resolution by informing team members, supervisor, Appraisers, and Assessor leadership of issues, and working collaboratively to redesign and re-run programs, conduct special analysis, and recommend and enact solutions Work collaboratively with other members of the office to implement greater efficiencies in the operation of the office, public access to records and accuracy of data for final valuations.
