Job Location: Chandler, AZ
VirTra is looking for a Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our processes, products, and services.
In this role you will work collaboratively with engineers, sales and marketing, manufacturing, graphic designers, project managers, legal counsel, or other stakeholders to make our processes and products easier to use through improved internal and customer documentation.
Essential Duties:
Research, plan, design, write, format, edit, and validate a wide variety of technical and commercial documents, including manuals, procedures, quick reference guides, checklists, data sheets, and/or forms used in support of products or processes
Capture, conceptualize, and develop detailed information by working with operators, technicians, engineers, and others as needed to support document creation and maintenance
Ability to understand and transform complex topics into easy-to-understand, concise instructions
Develop and maintain detailed databases of appropriate reference materials and documentation
Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding
Identify and resolve documentation issues related to procedures, concepts, organization, accuracy, presentation and usability; propose solutions to stakeholders
Ensure new and revised historical documents align with and are standardized to company branding guides, quality style guides, and as applicable, customer-directed document formats, to ensure consistency in presentation, tone, and style
Verify documents are complete, concise, clear, and that appropriate grammar and format are used
Adhere to and mature ISO 9001:2015 documentation requirements
Be able to function independently or work as part of a project team to accomplish projects and objectives
Responsible for auditing and updating the documents in our library
Complete special assignments as directed
Manage and log time worked daily by project code
Performs other duties as requested
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or appropriate technical discipline ideally with an emphasis on technical communication – or ten (10) or more years working experience
Five (5) or more years of experience in document development, with demonstrated writing, editing, formatting, design, and proofreading skills
Five (5) or more years of demonstrated successful interpersonal communication skills, to include experience working in a team environment and interviewing for document content
Must have fluency in English writing and grammar – fluency in multiple languages to include Spanish, French, and/or Portuguese is a plus
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and other technical writing tools, such as Madcap Flare, Adobe Robohelp, or Illustrator
Able to work efficiently independently or in a team environment
Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an understanding of prioritization
Basic familiarity with software and hardware development is desired
Experience writing for law enforcement, government or military customers is a plus

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and speak.
Frequently the employee will be required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Often will be required to sit and work at a computer for upwards of 4 hours at a time which requires repetitive motion of the wrist, hands and/or fingers.
May need to lift office supplies upwards of 25 lbs.
