Our Technology team has 4 different departments: Information Security, IT Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, and IT Commerce & Customer Engagement.

About the Location Fully Remote Position: This position is considered to be Fully Remote and work is done from another location outside of Phoenix Home Office (within the United States).
Associates that are considered to be Fully Remote do not have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can expect to be asked to travel to Phoenix Home Office several times a year [or more], based on business needs and in partnership with leadership.
Associates that are considered to be Fully Remote will acknowledge the “Remote Work Agreement” upon hire.

How this role will make an impact: Data is critical to the success of any retail organization, and at PetSmart, it is the lifeblood that drives value by providing the information to make strategic business decisions and process improvements.
As a Data Architect you are responsible for collaborating with the various PetSmart business areas to architect sustainable data-driven solutions to meet business needs and add significant business value.
Provided solutions should be in alignment with enterprise architecture direction and standards.
Data Architects are expected to have a deep understanding of data development patterns, models, flows, and data strategies that enable solving business problems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works with the business partners to understand their needs, formulate requirements, identify options and recommend data-intensive solutions for highly complex business processes.
Proactively works across Technology leadership, enterprise, and solution architects to anticipate, align and resolve solution challenges.
Drives the solutioning for large complex data projects, collaborating with Enterprise Architects and other Solutions Architects, and business area teams to build technical design and specification documents, to meet business needs considering capabilities, risks, and system dependencies.
Works effectively with engineering scrum teams to execute the solutions.
Works on multiple concurrent projects and maintains stated timelines.
Develops data architecture design documentation including data flow diagrams and data models consistent with PetSmart standards and industry best practices.
Collaborates and prepares engineering estimates.
Liaises with peers in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, Operations and Security to ensure support, adherence to standards, and consistency in solution designs.
Makes sure that provided solutions meet overall non-functional requirements (supportability, performance, security, availability, scalability, and such).
Works with engineering and DevOps teams to help define data pipelines and automation to streamline deployments, minimizing the impact in ongoing operations.
Assists in the creation of the roadmaps and strategies.
Keeps up to date on industry architectural standards and trends.
What you’ll bring to the table: BS Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS, or other technical discipline Minimum 8 years’ experience with data architecture, integration, and analytics Working knowledge of data warehousing, big data environments, data architectures, and terminology Experience with leveraging Design Patterns across many areas of technology: ETL / ELT / Pub-Sub / Intentional Data Transfer / Event-Driven Architecture Experience working with REST and SOAP APIs and MicroService/MiniService architectures Experience using tools in the PetSmart Platform: MicroStrategy / Informatica / Tibco / Netezza / Snowflake/ Big Data Technologies / Apache Spark / Azure Data Lake / Databricks.
Experience with other similar tool sets can be substituted.
