The Principal Engineer II role includes closely working with our stakeholders to drive engineering excellence, partner with business and other IT leaders to build digital assets, provide expert level support to resolve complex issues and provide RCA, identify gaps in systems in the current digital ecosystem, and provide solutions to enhance overall performance.
About the Role: This Principal Engineer II role is a high visibility, hands on software engineering role that will shape and direct our strategy for our enterprise digital messaging platform.
This new vision of our next-gen messaging platform will be leveraged by others across Marketing, Retail, Pharmacy, Health Services, and our Aetna partners.
This role will be working closely with the Architecture and Engineering teams to help define and implement the messaging platform strategy, which includes but is not limited to delivery channels such as Email, SMS, and Push supporting all of CVS Health.
To be effective in this role, you must have a passion and knowledge for building highly scalable systems while working across a wide net of teams and skillsets.

Engineering, Architecture, and Product Leadership Senior Managers Lead Directors Executive Directors VPs What We Expect of You: Self-starter who can see the big picture and prioritize their work to make the largest impact on the business and customers vision and requirements.
Lead the engineering strategy and development of the enterprise digital messaging platform.
Act as an executive technical leader across strategic efforts, leveraging partners, technical leads, and technical expertise to better inform processes and outcomes.
Be a technologist and work with other Engineers in planning, prioritizing, and performing assigned tasks within deadlines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process improvement.
Collaborating with other teams across CVS Digital to ensure we're building a platform with our customer's needs in mind.
Be an advocate for and implementer of API best practices.
Be an advocate for and implementer of security best practices.
Keeping an eye out for new and emerging technologies that improve performance, delivery, and developer experience.
Participating in peer code reviews, providing feedback to your fellow engineers to make them better and to improve the quality of the software we ship.
Required Qualifications 12+ years of software development in enterprise cloud applications 8+ years of development experience utilizing Node.
js and Java / Springboot 5+ years of cloud development experience (GCP, AWS, Azure) 5+ years of experience working on Agile teams 5+ years of experience in architecting, designing, and delivering scalable microservices-based applications Preferred Qualifications: Expert level understanding of modern software development practices using tools for version control, CI/CD, testing and deployment.
Developing scalable engineering solutions for cross-team concerns like UI state management, data fetching, build tooling, performance, client observability, analytics, and other architectural challenges.
Experience with container orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or Serverless Products (i.
e.
, Cloud Run) and Vagrant.
Experience with automated testing and proficiency within a testing framework.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Education: Bachelor degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $140,000.
00 - $280,000.
00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.
The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
