Grow Your Skills, Grow Your Potential Responsibilities We are seeking forward-thinking Lead Software Engineers with a focus on mainframe development skills/experience to join our Financial and Statistical Processing and Reporting area.
The area includes several financially significant applications such as: General Ledger (GL), Loss Reserves (LR), Transactional Data Stores (TDS), and Transactional Accounting System (TAS).
They each have exceptionally complex code bases and are primarily coded in Cobol, DB2, PL1 as well as PeopleSoft.
A strong knowledge of the finance business processes and the daily, monthly and year-end processing for each application will be beneficial.
The Lead Mainframe Software Engineers will work in collaboration with product leads and key stakeholders to understand, analyze, design, code, test, document and implement innovative solutions.
These solutions will require an understanding of State Farm's mainframe capabilities and coding languages, as well as the ability to learn, integrate, and apply leading-edge, open-source technologies on z/OS.
The engineers selected will leverage these technologies to support and modernize critical business applications, while leveraging the stability and cost effectiveness of the mainframe.
Successful candidates will have the desire or proven ability to learn different technologies to enable modernization of mainframe applications, for example coding in Java on the Mainframe, use of Python or AWS (for data storage, movement, database development, or analysis of data through various reporting/dashboard technologies).
Specific Duties/Responsibilities: Possess an understanding of how technology solutions meet business outcomes and offer a range of solutions for business partners.
Lead solution design, consider risks, mitigation, performance, user experience, and testability.
Complete required coding to satisfy the defined acceptance criteria and deliver desired outcomes.
Assist in development of automated testing and supporting code as necessary.
Utilize agile software development practices.
Follow data and testing standards, secure coding practices, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery and software architecture.
Participate in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset.
Apply emerging technology solutions to increase efficiency and effectiveness, with an expectation of continuous innovation.
Resolve problems that result in a decreased time to market; improve quality, enhance flexibility, and embrace the solution provider mindset.
