ASSISTANT DIRECTOR of PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS Job Location: Address: 150 N.
18th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85007 Posting Details: Salary: $148,500 Grade: E4 Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Preparedness reports directly to the Public Health Services Deputy Director.
This position provides direction and vision to the Preparedness Services division.
It is responsible for directing the overall planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the programs for the following Bureaus: Infectious Disease Services, Public Health Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System, Immunization Services, and the Arizona State Public Health Laboratory.
The position is accountable for the effective and efficient administration of more than 70 public health programs and approximately 300 FTE.
Budget and programmatic oversight is subject to change based on emerging diseases and focused grants to address the need.
The position serves as part of the Department's executive leadership team and is responsible for the development and implementation of Department policy and goals within the Division.
The position will represent the Department at meetings with local, state, and federal government officials as well as other community partners.
This position fills a leadership role within the Public Health Emergency Operations Center to provide policy guidance during real-world health emergencies and exercise events.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties: Directing the overall planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the programs for Public Health Preparedness.
This includes personnel management, financial management, policy development (administrative rules and proposed legislation), public health emergency management, and strategic visioning for the division.
Participates or leads agency, division, or bureau strategic initiatives, including advancing health equity, public health accreditation, and continuous quality improvement.
Responsible for representation of the Department at meetings with other state agencies, external partners, health officials from the federal government, other states, and local counties.
Build collaborative partnerships with external organizations to advance health equity and achieve health outcomes.
Participate in the Department leadership team and carry out the development and implementation of Department policy and goals within the Division.
Communicate about Preparedness Services programs and issues through media interviews, blogs, presentations, reports, and other verbal and written forms of communication to various audiences and Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of: - Public health principles and practices, health equity, program planning implementation and evaluation, research, principles of administration and organizational behavior.
- Federal, state, and local legislation and regulations as they relate to public health quality assurance methodologies, principles of budgeting and accounting.
- Essential Emergency Medical Services, Epidemiology and Disease Control, Public Health Emergency Preparedness and the Arizona Public Health Laboratory.
- Principles of social determinants of health and health inequities and how they influence public health practices - Disparities in health outcomes for vulnerable populations including socio-economic and environmental facts that affect health outcomes and cause disparities - Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.
Skill in: - Assimilate a broad spectrum of information in order to conceptualize relevant elements for program management.

Selective Preference(s): Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and seven years of professional level work experience in public health services, five of those years will be work in progressive management experience in public health and/or supervising individuals and teams at various levels within a large public health program.
