The Flood Control Deputy Director provides people-centric leadership in planning, designing, building, operating, and maintaining flood control structures.
The Deputy Director provides significant input and guidance to the Director, influencing decisions that direct the overall operations of the District.

We Require
Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible engineering or transportation systems experience with four (4) years of directly related supervisory and/or management experience
Registration as a Civil Engineer by the Arizona State Board of Technician Registration, or by the technician board of another state, with the ability to obtain Arizona registration within six months of hire
Bachelor’s degree in engineering; hydrologic/hydrology, public administration or related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Our Preferred Candidate will possess ten (10) years of professional experience working in a Flood Control or Hydrology/Hydraulic related industry.
Job Contributions
Provides the Director and County Management with considerable input in the development and implementation of department and County strategic goals and objectives.
Ensures the County’s compliance with state and federal laws related to flood issues.
Manages subordinate managerial and supervisory staff.
Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of flood control programs and provides recommendations on how to improve results and service delivery.
Keeps informed of current issues, best practices, and trends to ensure efficient and effective County operations.
Represents the Chief Engineer and General Manager in high-level meetings with County management, the Board of Directors, and outside agencies.
Acts as the appointing authority in the Chief Engineer and General Manager's absence.
Working Conditions
Generally, work is performed in an office environment.
However, work may also be performed in the field and may require the use of a personal or county vehicle for travel throughout Maricopa County.
Candidates must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Additionally, the selected candidate must be comfortable using various Microsoft Office Suite applications as well as proprietary county software.
