Job Description Assists with the planning, operation and supervision of various recreational activities including adult and youth sports, aquatics, cultural events, outdoor activities, special events, Multi-Gen Center operations, contract classes and senior services.
Performs complex and difficult duties to include providing supervision and direction to Recreation staff and program participants.
Receives general instruction but applies specialized skills and training in planning, coordinating, operating and supervising recreational activities and facilities.
Job Responsibilities Participate in preparing programs and event publicity including news releases, flyers, pamphlets and brochures.
Supervise and participate in the issuance, use, care and maintenance of recreation supplies and equipment.
Assist in the scheduling, operation, set-up and daily maintenance of City facilities.
Inspect recreation areas, facilities and equipment to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.
Plan, organize and direct a wide variety of recreational activities at schools, parks, Multi-Gen Center, senior services/programs and other recreational areas.
Participate in the preparation of ball fields to include putting out bases, chalking/painting lines and operating lighting system.
Perform a variety of routine clerical work including filing, billing, checking and recording information on record, receptionist, telephones, cashiering, customer service.
May assist in operation and supervision of various recreational activities including but not limited to the operation of fitness equipment, climbing wall, programs and activities for pre-school and seniors.
May conduct various classes.
Assist in the training, supervision and evaluation of lower level Recreation Leaders, Volunteers and Contract staff; prioritize and assign tasks for Recreation staff.
Create and maintain a safe environment for staff and participants.
Support the City"s policies, goals and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Other Information/License, Certifications, Etc Candidates who are selected for appointment may be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph and/or psychological evaluation.
Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid driver"s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona, or meet the transportation needs of the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge and Skills - KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrated Knowledge of: City and Department procedures, policies and guidelines; Arizona Revised Statutes; Federal employment laws.
Basic principles and practices of recreation program development; rules and regulations governing various competitive athletic games.
Basic first aid; procedures and protocols for injury prevention and reporting.
Regulations and rules for safely operating recreation equipment; proper safety equipment to use during various activities.
Skill in: Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely.
Implementing, supervising and evaluating a variety of recreation programs.
Providing quality customer service.
Minimum Qualifications Must possess a high school diploma or GED, and one (1) year paid fulltime experience in a recreation or education related field that includes climbing wall use, fitness, sports, aquatics, arts & crafts, or youth, teen or senior programming; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands and Working Environment Work is performed in a standard indoor environment and may include work out of doors in high temperatures.
May require frequent sitting and operation of a personal computer.
Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, run and lift or move up to 50 pounds.
May require attending off site and outdoor activities which will require operation of a vehicle.
May work a flexible schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours.
