POSITION SUMMARY: Provide strategic and technical support on environmental permitting, compliance and sustainability practices to operations in the region.
Work closely with operating sites to anticipate regulatory requirements and take corrective steps.
Work with sites to evaluate compliance and develop effective programs and tools to ensure compliance.
Work effectively with LNA Director, Environmental Affairs and other REMs to provide leadership and develop and implement best practice tools for environmental compliance and sustainability.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS: Permitting strategy Understand regulatory options Work with Operations to understand development plans (CAPEX) and define optimal permitting strategy Prepare applications and negotiate with regulators Compliance support Audit sites to define issues Work with sites to develop compliance strategies and management systems Promote best practices Project Management Define project objectives, deliverables and timelines Manage permitting projects, including consultants Technical Expertise Provide consulting support on scientific, environmental and sustainability issues confronting the lime industry Business Partner Work effectively with peers, senior operational management and the LNA Director, Environmental to define and implement priorities Provide mentoring and leadership to site EHS Managers Provide quick responses as needed Perform other duties as assigned.
ATTRIBUTES: Progressive leadership experience in environmental management systems and compliance.
Air permitting expertise, especially in Arizona, Nevada and California is plus Demonstrated project management with the ability to work with limited supervision.
Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and the ability to apply such in the manufacturing and mining environments.
Willing to seek assistance from other regional resources when necessary.
Experience dealing with all levels of EPA agencies Ability to influence prioritization of activities to maintain compliance.
Strong interaction skills with regulatory inspectors including accompaniment on inspections and follow-up activities as required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate on all levels Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet all required deadlines.
Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
Forward-looking action-oriented team player that works well with cross-functional groups Must be capable of working any shift, overtime, seven days, or holidays, if needed Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint software.
Physical Demands include, but are not limited to: Must be physically able to perform the work assigned.
Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperatures, noise, and dust.
Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and access tunnels.
Will be working in an office environment, mining, and mineral processing environment.
The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking on uneven surfaces, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to travel up to 40% of time as needed and/or directed by manager.
Required Experience: Must have at least 5-7 years of progressive environmental leadership experience in a regional and/or heavy manufacturing and/or surface/underground mining environment.
Preferred Experience: 8-10 years of experience with EPA-regulated facilities.
Experience in working in a limestone/minerals mining environment.
Required Education: BS in Environmental Engineering or natural sciences or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.
