Our multi-disciplinary team approach includes surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, women's centers, diagnostic imaging services, social service support, nutritionist, integrative services, and genetic counseling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Determines the impact of therapeutic interventions on the patient’s condition and recognizes the patient’s progress towards meeting the desired outcomes.
Educates patients on procedures, skin care, side effects and nutrition.
Observes patients for physical and emotional changes, side effects and nutrition needs.
Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts.
Monitors patients’ clinical progress; withholds treatment if necessary and refers patients to medical or nursing staff for appropriate intervention.
Operates therapeutic equipment, proper patient positioning, monitoring of the patient during the procedure, and related clerical duties.
Performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
Evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations; recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to physics.
Adheres to strict radiation safety guidelines and wears appropriate radiation monitoring badges.
Performs procedures regarding quality assurance, emergency shutdown and guidelines that pertain to the operation manuals for equipment.
Serves as a technical resource person for implementing new techniques or technology.
Assists in training and evaluation of student therapists if applicable.
Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.
Practices effective verbal and written communication skills.
Meets and adheres to internal quality controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, strategic goals.
Accurately completes and charts all simulation and treatment summaries, reports and documentations.
Performs weekly billing checks and audits charges and documentation.
Must be able to type and work on a computer.
Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians.
Lead Duties Conducts final billing audits.
Creates schedules for Radiation Therapists.
Acts as a liaison between therapists and physicians.
Supervises chiller water filter changes on Scheduled Saturdays.
Runs daily unresolved charge report.
Manages radiation workflow.
Indirectly supervises therapists.
Involved in training new radiation therapy staff.
Check new starts for the day to make sure everything is ready.
Review Chart to include CTP notes and Diagnosis code.
Patient Scheduling Schedule the CT sim patients (concurrent chemo patients place task in ONCO w/ RT start date and email Med Onc and Rad Onc start date).
Check tomorrow’s schedule for any conflicts and check the QCL for new starts starting each day.
Assist in CT (if necessary for complex cases).
Print tomorrow’s schedule and call to confirm the new starts.
QCL first checks.
Updating documents (CTP docs, OTV notes).
Respond to emails (usually about billing).
Weekly billing checks on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Weekly chart checks for on-treatment patients.
Chart rounds weekly.
Final audits.
Update doctor’s schedules, put on daily machine schedule, and check for any conflicts.
Update weekly OTVs if doctors are off.
Look ahead for upcoming boosts and move on schedule if more time needed.
Help on machines as needed.
Help cover at lunchtime if morning goes late.
Maintain therapist’s schedule rotating between machines.
Liaison between doctors and therapists.
Generally help with anything so the department runs smoothly.
Address any patient concerns if necessary.
Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of Medical Office operations Knowledge of medical terminology Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Outlook and internet.
Ability to use office equipment, computer.
EMR experience preferred.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Graduate of accredited school of Radiation Therapy.
One to two years of medical assistant experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ARRT Accreditation.
Arizona State License.
