The Student Services Specialist Sr.
will serve as School Certifying Official (SCO) coordinating information submitted to the VA in terms of enrollment status and changes.
This position will guide other staff when needed on VA policy, assist in coordinating workflow management of part time SCOs and work studies, and train on internal processes and utilization of VA's Enrollment Management system and Debt Management Process.
This position is also tasked with advising students on various VA products and programs.
This advisement can include information on applying for GI Bill benefits, determining if a program is approved for use of GI Bill, and basic eligibility criteria.
Essential Functions 40% - Directly assist student veteran and dependent students through activities such as advising and counseling on educational benefit programs, discussing critical aspects of the enrollment services process, researching and troubleshooting issues that prohibit or affect enrollment certification, and serving as a point of contact for colleagues in other departments, throughout MCCCD, and for federal and state regulatory agencies.
30% - Certify VA educational benefits as a School Certifying Official (SCO); Act as point of contact for VA regulations, monitoring student enrollments to include enrollment changes (adjustments and amendments), repeat course requests, prior credit review, academic probation, and reporting of graduation.
20% - Create and maintain confidential records and reports; prepare files for auditing by the U.
S.
Department of Veterans Affairs and the State Approving Agency.
10% - Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and two year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
OR High School Diploma/GED and four year full-time of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.
Desired Qualifications A.
Master’s degree or higher in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Business, or Related Field.
B.
One (1) or more years of experience providing student support services in a college or university setting.
C.
One (1) or more years of experience as a School Certifying Official (SCO) working with the Department of Veteran Affairs in a college or university setting.
D.
One (1) or more years of experience working with state or federal agencies in a compliance related position focused on regulatory reviews or audits.
E.
Experience using online student databases (i.
e.
Peoplesoft, Canvas, Banner).
F.
Experience working with diverse populations (such as Veterans, Multicultural, International).
Special Working Conditions May be required to work evenings and weekends May be required to work at multiple sites or locations.
